About Canada Construction Network

Canada Construction Network is a national data publication focused on construction costs, renovation pricing, and building trends across Canadian provinces. We publish original research based on aggregated industry data.

Our Data

Our analysis draws from over 1,100 verified industry sources spanning Ontario, British Columbia, Alberta, and New Brunswick. These sources include contractor estimates, project reports, permit data, and market surveys covering 20+ construction project types.

Methodology

Cost data is extracted from detailed project descriptions using pattern-matching algorithms. Dollar ranges, per-unit costs, and project-type classifications are validated against known market ranges. Each data point carries a confidence score based on its source specificity and recency.

National and provincial averages are calculated from data points with a confidence score of 0.60 or higher, requiring a minimum sample size of 3 independent sources. Cost indices are recalculated daily as new data is ingested.

Quality Controls

  • Confidence scoring: Every extracted cost data point is scored 0.0–1.0 based on source clarity and pattern match quality.
  • Regulatory accuracy: Provincial building codes, safety authorities, and regulatory bodies are validated per province. ESA/TSSA for Ontario, TSBC for BC, Safety Codes Council for Alberta, Technical Safety Authority for New Brunswick.
  • Cross-province validation: Cost data is compared across provinces to flag outliers and ensure consistency.
  • No fabricated data: Every dollar figure published traces back to at least one source data point. We do not estimate or interpolate costs without evidence.

Report Generation

Reports are generated through an automated pipeline that synthesizes cost data with provincial regulatory context. Each report must pass hard constraints (minimum word count, minimum provinces cited, regulatory accuracy, no placeholder text) and soft constraints (cost data density, reading level, source recency) before publication.

Reports that fail any hard constraint remain in draft until manually reviewed. This ensures published content meets our quality standards.

Coverage

We currently cover four Canadian provinces:

  • Ontario — Ontario Building Code, ESA/TSSA, WSIB
  • British Columbia — BC Building Code, Technical Safety BC, WorkSafeBC
  • Alberta — Alberta Building Code, Safety Codes Council, WCB Alberta
  • New Brunswick — NB Building Code, Technical Safety Authority of NB, WorkSafeNB
